I've been organising public ghost hunting events all over the country for 9 years now, but many people have asked me, What made you start ghost hunting ? Well, I've had many paranormal experiences over the years, but I only got the idea to form Ghostcallers UK back in November 2006.
I saw a poster advertising a charity ghost hunt being held at Dudley Castle in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust, I managed to raise £120 for the cause. The night of the investigation finally arrived, we'd been asked to meet up at the Station Hotel opposite the Castle, over 30 people turned up for the event which was a fantastic turnout for a great cause.
There were two mediums that were in attendance, after the introduction of the Mediums and team members organising the event we made our way over to the Castle for a guided tour and history talk and the paranormal activity connected to it. We'd experienced some really good activity in the corridor of the visitor centre and purgatory room and also in the under croft, it was a fantastic investigation.
From then on I was definitely bitten by the ghost hunting bug and wanted to do another investigation as soon as I could, so began looking around to see if there were any local paranormal groups investigating locations in the area. There was an investigation being held at the Courthouse pub, Dudley in March 2007. Over 20 people attended this event which I didn't find very good although we did experience some strange activity in the cellar and function room of the pub. I felt the group conducting the event didn't do the investigation justice.
Around the same time I was a member of the local karate club, the club had been invited to train at a Dojo in Osaka, Japan in 2009 and I needed to think of a way I could raise some money for the flight, hotel and a little spending money while I was there so I thought of forming my own ghost hunting group.
I played around with a few names for the group and the only name that struck me was Ghostcallers, so the name stuck. After ringing a few psychic mediums we'd managed to book a lady by the name of Lorraine who'd attended ghost hunting events and was quite happy to attend our very first investigation. After many phone calls and emails to various pubs, clubs and other locations we managed to book our very first ghost hunt at The Courthouse Inn, Sedgley on 7th September 2007.
Over 40 people attended the investigation, I was worried as it being our first investigation the pub had never been investigated before and didn't know what to expect. We split everyone attending the investigation into 4 groups of 8 (with 2 team members consigned to each group) and headed off to investigate various areas of the pub, upstairs rooms, cellar and bar area, the pub was being renovated at the time so we were lucky to investigate the empty upstairs rooms.
It was make or break time, I decided there and then that if the investigation didn't go well I wouldn't do another one so the fate of Ghostcallers UK was practically in the hands of the gods. After investigating for over 6 hours we came to the end of our very first ghost hunt, which proved, much to the astonishment of the team, to be a complete success with lots of paranormal activity witnessed by many of those who attended.
Ghostcallers UK haven't looked back since and we've gone on to investigate many other haunted locations including headlining Halloween events at the Black Country Living Museum!
So that's how Ghostcallers UK was born, I very much hope you found this enjoyable and informative, please help us spread the word and like and share this post we'd very much appreciate your support, and we look forward to seeing you on an investigation very soon.
Have a great everybody
John (Ghostcallers UK)
